Environmental Services, the city’s sewer and stormwater utility, is designing a sewer repair project for N Reno Avenue between Decatur and Ivanhoe streets. (see map below) The project will repair 470 feet of public sewer pipe, and five manholes. The existing pipe is 80 years old and failing due to deterioration. This project will help protect public health, water quality, and the environment.
The pipe will be lined with cured-in-place lining, a process where crews access the sewer from manholes to insert a flexible liner inside the old pipe. Hot water or steam inflates and cures the liner, which gradually hardens to form a rigid, smooth surface that seals cracks and restores the pipe to near-new condition.
During the design process Environmental Services will develop the plans and specification used by construction contractors to make the needed repairs. This involves gathering information on existing conditions above ground, underground, in the public sewer itself. You should expect the following activities over the next 2-3 months:
Information will be mailed area neighbors. Neighbor are encouraged to call us any time they have a question, suggestion or concern about how this important sewer project might affect you and your neighbors. Please also let us know about nearby community events, business operations, medical needs, and private construction on your home.
