Environmental Services - the City’s sewer and stormwater utility - is designing a public sewer project that will abandon 720 feet of large diameter pipe built in 1902, replace one
line (approximately 200 feet of pipe) that is deteriorating due to age, and build two new lines (about 200 feet of pipe) that will extend the existing sewer system. The project will be constructed in two phases, first the abandonment of the 1902 line, followed by the repair and construction work. This project will help protect public health, water quality, and our environment.
Beginning in January of 2018, crews will begin work abandoning and decommissioning the old sewer line from 1908 that runs. This process will involve installing a plug in one end of the line and then pumping grout in to the old line. This will shore up the line and prevent sinkholes or collapses.
Work on repairing and extending sewer lines will occur in another phase of the project later in 2018.
