Environmental Services - the City’s sewer and stormwater utility - is designing a public sewer project that will abandon 720 feet of large diameter pipe built in 1902, replace two lines (483 feet of pipe) that are deteriorating due to age, and build two new lines (about 200 feet of pipe) that will extend the existing sewer system (see map on back). The project will be constructed in two phase, first the abandonment of the 1902 line, followed by the repair and construction work. This project will help protect public health, water quality, and our environment. To see a map of the project area visit the Project Overview page.
In late May/early June you may see a small crew out doing soil samples. This work will occur in the street or planting strips. It usually takes about an hour or two per location. As the design process moves along you may occasionally see other crews inspecting manholes and pipes, and surveying. The city will update neighbors at regular meetings of the Montavilla Neighborhood Association.
