Environmental Services is continuing construction to replace and upsize 910 feet of public sewer pipes in your neighborhood. The existing pipes, which transport both sewage and stormwater, are deteriorating due to old age and are undersized for the sewer and stormwater flows in this area. This project will reduce the risk of basement sewer backups at adjacent properties to protect water quality, public health, and the environment in the Willamette River Watershed.
Project will take place on NE Cleveland Ave between Skidmore St and Mason St, and on NE 10th Ave between Beech St and Fremont St.
Construction on NE Cleveland avenue between NE Skidmore and NE Mason streets has begun at the beginning of June, and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
In July, the crew will move to NE 10th avenue between NE Beech and Fremont streets, and expect to complete the work at that location in a month.
Temporary asphalt patches will be applied on streets where crews had to dig into the street to repair public sewer pipes. The contractor will return to complete final pavement restoration after construction is completed and the new pipes have been tested.
Open Trench Excavation will be used to upsize the existing sewer pipes. This method consists of excavating down to and exposing the existing pipe so that it can be repaired or replaced, then backfilling the trench. To read more about this construction method, see www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/methods.
Work Hours: From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. If necessary, work may occur the same hours on Saturday.
