City of Portland Environmental Services – your sewer and stormwater utility - is designing a project to replace and construct nearly 750 feet of sewer pipe in your neighborhood. Heavy tree roots have grown into and are clogging and damaging the 102-year-old pipe in Commercial Avenue. In addition, this project will construct a new sewer pipe in NE Mason Street. This sewer repair project will protect public health and the environment by reducing the possibility of costly breaks, sink holes and sewage releases to homes, businesses and streets.

N Commercial / N Shaver Sewer Repair Project

Schedule

Construction is anticipated to start in late August, and will last approximately four months.

Construction Methods

Environmental Services has selected both trenchless and open trench excavation methods for this project. Learn more about these methods at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/methods.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Work Hours: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. If necessary, work may occur the same hours on Saturday.
  • Noise, Vibration and Dust may disrupt normal neighborhood activity.
  • Traffic Delays will occur in and near the work area. Please observe traffic control signs and follow the directions of flaggers.
  • Driveway Access to your property will be maintained, but construction may impact normal use of your driveway or entrance to your business.
  • Sewer, water, and other utilities will remain in service during construction.
  • Equipment Storage: Some equipment and materials may be stored on your street overnight.
  • Schedule Changes and Inactivity: construction schedule is subject to change due to a variety of factors, including conditions underground, subcontractor schedules, and availability of materials. These same variables may cause periods of inactivity between construction phases.
  • On‐street parking will be restricted in and near the work zones to create a safe work environment and to stage equipment and materials.
