The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.
Construction is nearing on a project to replace and upsize 562 feet of sewer pipe in the Kerns neighborhood. The pipes in this neighborhood are too small for current sewer and stormwater flows. This project will also build greenstreet facilities to help manage stormwater before it enters the combined sewer system. In addition, this project will provide additional capacity to the system in anticipation of the upcoming Earl Blumenauer Pedestrian and Bicycle bridge that is being designed and built by PBOT. This project will help protect public health and our environment by helping to control flooding risks and reducing the possibility of sewer backups and sewage releases to homes, businesses, and streets.
Contractors have completed all pipe work and are nearly finished with major construction activities on greenstreet planters for this project. Some additional planting and maintenance activities will take place over the coming months when planting conditions are appropriate.
All bridge and sewer construction work is expected to finish in early 2021.
