Environmental Services has begun construction on a project on SW Hamilton Terrace to repair 200 linear feet of sewer line and a manhole that is deteriorating due to age. The sewer repair will extend the life of the sewer and protect public health, water quality, and the environment.
The manhole and pipe repair begin at the northern end of SW Hamilton Terrace, between SW Bancroft Street and SW Terwilliger Boulevard.
Beginning July 8, 2019 SW Hamilton Terrace will be closed to all traffic between SW Bancroft and SW Terwilliger from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This work is anticipated to take two to three weeks to complete.
A trenchless method called Pipe Bursting will be used for this project. It involves digging an access pit and inserting a bursting head into the existing sewer line. The bursting head breaks the old pipe apart and pulls the new pipe into place behind it. This method was specifically selected to avoid removal of several 36-inch diameter fir trees.
