The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.
Environmental Services – your sewer and stormwater utility – has completed the design of a project in your neighborhood to repair or replace approximately 259 feet of 130-year-old public sewer pipes that are in deteriorating condition. The NW Hoyt Street Sewer Repair Project will help reduce the possibility of sewage releases to homes, businesses, and streets.
Public sewer improvements will be made in NW Hoyt Street between NW 19th and NW 20th avenues.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the late summer of 2020 and be completed by December 2020.
Crews will use the Open Trench Excavation method to construct the main line sewer pipe and lateral sewer connections to private residences. This is the most common method of sewer construction.
This method consists of excavating down to and exposing the existing pipe so that it can be repaired or replaced, then backfilling the trench, applying a temporary asphalt patch, and then restoring the pavement in the patched area after pipe inspections are completed. If you have a concern or question about the work near you, please be sure to include your name, business name, property address, and project name (NW Hoyt) in your voicemail and email so we can provide you more details about what to expect in front of your property.
