Environmental Services is designing a project in your neighborhood to repair or replace approximately 259 feet of 130-year-old public sewer pipes that are in deteriorating condition. The NW Hoyt Street Sewer Repair Project will help protect public health, water quality, and the Fanno Creek Watershed by reducing the possibility of sewage releases to homes, businesses, and streets.
Public sewer improvements will be made in NW Hoyt Street between NW 19th and NW 20th avenues, and will include a short extension in NW 20th Avenue just north of Hoyt.
Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2020 and be completed by December 2020.
Over the next several weeks, starting as early as the end of August, crews will be gathering information to help engineers define repair locations, select construction methods, and determine how to minimize construction impacts on residents.
City crews may be in the neighborhood to conduct surveys of public utilities and street elevations, lift manhole lids to inspect manholes, conduct video inspections of sewer pipes using closed circuit television cameras, drill small holes in the street to obtain soil samples, place temporary paint markings on the pavement to mark locations of sewer pipes and other underground utilities, and conduct other information-gathering activities. Details about what the utility locate colors mean are available online at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/precon.
These design and pre-construction activities will occur over time and not all at once.
