Reed Manhole Repair Project

Update May 7, 2020

The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.

Environmental Services, the city’s sewer and stormwater utility, is designing a project to abandon an existing manhole located in a natural area on the Reed College campus and replace it with a new manhole outside of the natural area. This project will help protect public health, water quality and the environment and reduce the risks of contamination in the natural area and in Crystal Springs Creek.

Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2021.

Why Construct During Summer?

The State of Oregon requires that this work coincides with the federally mandated "in-water work window." This is the best time to work in waterways and wetlands and will have the least impact on important fish, wildlife, and habitat resources.
