The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.
Updated May 7, 2020
Environmental Services – your sewer and stormwater utility – will soon begin designing a project to repair or replace approximately 1500 feet of public sewer pipe in your neighborhood that is showing signs of deterioration due to age. Before design can begin, the project team will be investigating the possibility of relocating main public sewer line from easements under private property to nearby streets. In addition to repairing or replacing aging pipe, relocating the main public sewer pipe will increase accessibility for future maintenance.
While some sewer spot repairs may occur this year, construction of the overall sewer repair or replacement is not expected to begin until April 2021, after the alignment study and design process is complete.
Over the next few months, work crews will periodically be in the study area to perform investigative activities. Activities include marking the location of sewer pipes and underground utilities with temporary paint, surveying the land, inspecting manholes, cleaning and inspecting the sewer, and collecting soil samples.
Some investigative activities will require restricting parking and closing travel lanes. Travelers should expect minor traffic delays.
Information gathered will help us determine the repair locations, select construction methods, and minimize construction impacts on residents and businesses.
