The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.
City of Portland Environmental Services – your sewer and stormwater utility - is beginning work on the Lower Northwest Sewer and Stormwater project to replace or repair aging sewer pipes in portions of the Northwest and Pearl Districts. This project will protect the public and the environment by reducing the possibility of street flooding and sewage releases to homes, businesses and streets.
Investigation and evaluation activities will take place for the remainder of 2020. Engineering design work will begin in 2021 and will be completed in the Spring of 2022. Construction will begin sometime after the end of design. Information on project schedule and impacts will be sent out regularly during all phases of this project.
Starting in April, survey crews will be in the neighborhood to locate and mark underground utilities by painting stripes on streets and sidewalks or placing colored flags in landscaped areas. Each color indicates what is buried below. Blue for water, yellow for natural gas, green for sewer, etc. Please visit www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/preconstruction for a list what each color indicates, and a description of activities that occur before the sewer work can take place.
