Environmental Services recently adopted a policy to guide how the bureau disposes of surplus property. The policy includes more robust public notice and engagement.
When the bureau determines that it no longer needs property it owns, the bureau first offers the property for sale to other city bureaus, Metro, county governments, the State of Oregon and neighborhood associations. If there is no interest, the community notification process begins. Once the Portland City Council designates the property as surplus, Environmental Services is authorized to place the property on the market for sale and list surplus properties for sale on this page.
