11. Common Reed
Common Reed (Phragmites australis)
- Large, perennial, grass species with plume-like flowering stalks
- Woody hollow stems can grow 1 to 4 meters tall
- Likes roadside ditches, marshes, swamps, brackish estuaries, and alkaline wetlands
- Seeds are shed from November through January and dispersed by wind, water, and animals
