Overnight restrictions on Multnomah Boulevard traffic
November 1, 2010
Sewer construction will reduce traffic to one lane in the 6800 block of Multnomah Boulevard tonight. Flaggers will direct traffic past the construction site all night.
During daytime work hours, Multnomah closes in both directions and traffic detours around the construction. The contractor normally removes the detour when daytime construction is complete at about 6:00 p.m. But the construction has reached a spot where the proximity of other utilities prevents the contractor from safely reopening both lanes tonight, so one lane will remain closed until tomorrow morning at about 7:00 a.m. when the detour resumes.
The construction is part of the city’s project to replace the Multnomah section of the Fanno Pressure Sewer.
Sewage release to the Willamette River in downtown Portland
November 16, 2010
A blocked sewer pipe caused a sewage overflow today to the Willamette River between the Hawthorne and Morrison bridges.
Maintenance crews conducting a routine inspection detected the overflow at about 9:10 this morning from a sewer outfall pipe on the east side of the Willamette just north of the Hawthorne Bridge. Maintenance crews cleared the blockage and the overflow ended at about 10:09 a.m. today.
From the time the overflow was detected until the time it was stopped, an estimated 1,500 gallons of raw sewage overflowed to the river. River users should avoid contact with river water near the Hawthorne Bridge today and tomorrow because of a higher bacteria level in the water.

Sewer construction will reduce traffic to one lane on Multnomah Boulevard at SW 31st Avenue through the afternoon rush hour and into the evening tonight. Flaggers will direct traffic past the construction site until all lanes are re-opened, probably by about 9:00 p.m.
Motorists detour around the construction area during daytime construction hours. The contractor normally removes the detour at about 4:00 p.m. This afternoon the contractor is installing a large, concrete vault that will keep one lane closed at SW 31st until this evening.
The construction is part of the city’s project to replace the Fanno Pressure Sewer.
