Sewage release to Cedar Mill Creek
A blocked sewer line has caused a sewage spill into a pond that flows into Cedar Mill Creek in Portland's West Hills. The spill occurred near NW Mill Pond Road just south of NW Thompson Road in the Forest Heights neighborhood.
City maintenance crews discovered an overflowing manhole just before 10:30 a.m. today and estimated the overflow at between five and ten gallons per minute. They cleared a blocked sewer line just before noon today to stop the overflow.
Warning signs are posted around the spill site. The public should avoid contact with water in the pond and in Cedar Mill Creek in the area today and tomorrow because of an increased bacteria level in the water.
