Sewer rehabilitation to close lanes downtown on SW Harrison
A sewer repair project will close the eastbound lane ofSW Harrison StreetbetweenSW 4th AvenueandSW Naito Parkwaybeginning early Monday, February 6, 2012. Monday through Thursday next week, the lane will close from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. On Friday, the lane will close at 7:00 a.m. and remain closed until Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The repair work will also slow north and southbound traffic on SW 1st and SW 4th avenues atHarrison Street.
The city’s contractor will maintain local access during construction. Drivers should expect delays during work hours. TriMet and Portland Streetcar will maintain regular routes during construction. The 200 blockSW Harrisonbus stop will close during construction. Bus riders should use the stop at SW Harrison and 4th as an alternate.
Sidewalks and pedestrian walkways may close periodically during construction. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
Last September, a contractor working on sewer repairs discovered a large cavity under the street. The contractor filled the cavity and restored the road surface. This work is the second phase of the project which includes final repairs to the pipe’s interior surface.
