Sewage release to the Willamette River in downtown Portland
An estimated 3,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the Willamette River this morning from an outfall pipe on the east bank of the Willamette River just north of the Morrison Bridge.
People should avoid contact with water at that location and immediately downstream today and tomorrow because of increased bacteria in the water.
The accidental spill occurred during maintenance work at the Alder Pump Station, which is located at the foot of SE Alder Street near Interstate 5.
