Ecoroof Fun in Holman Park

More than a dozen enthusiastic Woodlawn neighbors and BES staff gathered in the newly revised Holman Pocket Park on Saturday, May 5th to install an ecoroof on the new park kiosk. Community members donated plants from their gardens, tools, labor, pumice, waterproofing materials and edging while BES provided cinder, compost and sedum cuttings.
Neighbors also installed a bike fix-it station at the kiosk which includes a pump and other tools generously donated by Upcycles Bike Shop. Word on the street confirms that bike commuters have been putting these tools to use!
Since the work party, neighbors have continued to help the project grow by watering the plants through the unseasonably warm weather following the installation.
Special thanks to community member Travis Scrivner for his expert help designing and installing the edging!
