Obstruction in sewer line causes sanitary sewer overflow at SW Canyon Ct.
Due to an obstruction in a City owned sewer pipe, approximately 150 gallons of sewage overflowed from a manhole located in a private parking lot at 6400 SW Canyon Ct. today at approximately 12:00 p.m. The sewage flowed across the parking lot and entered a stormwater catch basin which discharges into an unnamed creek that eventually leads to Fanno Creek.
Maintenance crews have posted sewage warning signs at the spill location. People should avoid contact with stream water in this area for 48 hours because of elevated bacteria levels.
The Bureau of Environmental Services provides city residents with programs to protect water quality and public health, including wastewater collection and treatment, sewer construction and maintenance, stormwater management, and stream and watershed restoration.
