Sewage release on SW Terwilliger
City maintenance crews discovered sewage overflowing from a manhole on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 on SW Terwilliger Boulevard near its intersection with SW Southridge Drive on the east side of Tryon Creek State Natural Area. The sewage flowed into a roadside drainage ditch and did not enter a storm drain or Tryon Creek.
Maintenance crews confirmed the sewage overflow at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday and were able to stop the overflow at about 12:05 p.m. Wednesday. From the time the overflow was discovered until it was stopped, an estimated 800 gallons of sewage flowed into the drainage ditch.
Sewage warning signs are posted at the overflow site and maintenance crews are assessing cleanup options.
