Sewage leaking into Oak Creek in southwest Portland

City of Portland sewer maintenance crews are working to a repair a broken sewer pipe that is leaking into Oak Creek near the intersection of SW Palatine Street and SW 33rd Avenue. Crews found the leak at about noon today while doing routine sewer maintenance. They estimate sewage is leaking into the creek at the rate of about five gallons per minute.

The city is planning an emergency sewer repair to repair the pipe and stop the leak.

Oak Creek flows northeast to join Arnold Creek, and Arnold Creek empties into Tryon Creek. The public should avoid contact with Oak Creek in the area around SW 33rd Avenue and Palatine Street until the sewage leak is repaired.
