Baldock Service Yard Stormwater Retrofits
The Oregon Department of Transportation uses its Baldock Service Yard in southwest Portland to store and repair machinery and vehicles. Nearly two-thirds of the 290,599 square foot site is covered with impervious surfaces.
Before this project, untreated stormwater runoff from the service yard flowed into Falling Creek, a Tryon Creek tributary. ODOT and the City of Portland installed five flow-through planters and a vegetated swale to slow stormwater flow and filter pollutants before stormwater reaches the creek. The swales also help decrease peak flows in nearby Tryon Creek.
