Sewer construction is closing one traffic lane on SE 12th Avenue at SE Oak Street from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. The construction is closing SE Oak at SE 12th Avenue to through traffic during work hours. Flaggers are maintaining local access on SE Oak. Construction is closing the crosswalk at SE 12th and Oak during work hours.
The work will take about one week to complete. All lanes are open after work hours.
Work crews are installing a new manhole and sewer pipe as part of the Oak Street Sewer Project. The project is replacing sewer pipes that are in poor condition on SE Oak Street from SE 10th to SE 18th avenues and some adjacent streets.
Over one-third of Portland’s 2,500 miles of sewer pipes are more than 80 years old. Projects to replace or repair aging sewers protect water quality, public health, and the environment.
The Bureau of Environmental Services works with Portland residents and businesses to protect water quality, public health, and the environment through wastewater collection and treatment, sewer construction and maintenance, stormwater management, and stream and watershed restoration.
