Multnomah Village Goes Green

Capitol Highway in Multnomah Village is an important parking area for the Village and a major thoroughfare for the neighborhood.  When it rains, oils, metals, brake dust and other pollutants from this high use area wash into nearby Vermont Creek, a tributary of Fanno Creek where water quality and habitat resources have been significantly impacted by development.

Back in March, Environmental Services started construction on a series of green streets in the Village Core to treat pollutants running off the roadway and absorb rainwater with street trees. They've also been designed to encourage walking through widened sidewalks and bicycling through a reconfigured parking layout. Facilities were planted last month and are looking great.
