This property was a former service station and auto repair shop. The Portland Brownfield Program worked with the former owner and a prospective purchaser to provide Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments to clear the way for sale and redevelopment.
The Phase II assessment revealed an underground leaking heating oil tank and a small amount of petroleum contaminated soil. The tank was decommissioned and the impacted soil was removed before the mixed-use redevelopment was completed.
With the yellow MAX line on Interstate Avenue, this site was an early example of brownfield funds supporting transit-oriented-development in Portland.
