Environmental Services will begin construction the week of August 22nd to replace about 500 feet of 12-18 inch pipe which conveys stormwater from a central eastside neighborhood to the Willamette River. The existing pipe is deteriorating and the new pipe will efficiently convey stormwater to the river. This project will reduce the risk of flooding and stormwater backups in this area. This project is anticipated to last through October 2016.
The city’s contractor will use a trenchless technology called pilot tube micro-tunneling to install pipe. Go to http://www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/article/486795 for more information about this construction method. There will be some excavation to build the shafts and install manholes and storm drains.
