North Ash Creek sewage release stopped
November 19, 2015
City maintenance crews have stopped a sewage leak to North Ash Creek, a Fanno Creek tributary in southwest Portland. Maintenance crews verified the leak at about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and cleared roots blocking a sewer line to stop the leak at about 9:15 a.m. today.
Sewage had been seeping to the surface from an underground public sewer pipe on private property at an estimated rate of about 20 gallons per minute. Sewage entered North Ash Creek just west of SW Lancelot Lane between SW Orchid and SW Knightsbridge drives until crews completed repairs this morning.
Because of increased bacteria in the water, people should avoid contact with North Ash Creek in that area through tomorrow evening.
