Sewage release on SW Shattuck Road
Sanitary Sewage Overflow Advisory
December 15, 2015
Sewage flowed from a manhole in southwest Portland to a Fanno Creek tributary for several hours yesterday. City maintenance crews cleared a blocked public sewer line last night to stop the sewage release from a manhole on a hillside just off SW Shattuck Road north of SW Hamilton Street.
Crews verified the sewage release at about 3:15 p.m. yesterday and cleared the blockage to stop the release at about 8:00 p.m. yesterday. From the time they confirmed the release until they stopped it, they estimate that more than 28,000 gallons of sewage flowed into the stream.
Maintenance crews posted sewage release warning signs in the area. People should avoid contact with the creek in that location through Wednesday because of increased bacteria in the water.
