Environmental Services continues construction on a sewer repair and stormwater management project in the southern part of the Eliot neighborhood to replace or repair approximately 10,000 feet of deteriorating public sewer pipes that are 100 to 115 years old. The project will include constructing green street planters in the right-of-way on public streets in key locations. This project will reduce the risks of street flooding and basement sewer backups, accommodate future growth in the area, and help keep stormwater out of the sewer system. Environmental Services installs and maintains the planters, and there is no cost to the adjacent property owners.
Construction began in November 2017 and was originally expected to be completed by February 2019. Due to infrastructure conflicts that will require relocating public and private utilities, and the addition of sewer repair work on NE 8th Avenue and on Hancock Street, the project is now expected to be completed winter 2019.
