Environmental Services will being construction in February on a project to repair a public sewer mainline pipe in SW Washington Street between SW Park Avenue and SW 10th Avenue. The 115-year-old pipe carries combined sewage and stormwater and has a history of surcharging during large rain events. Repairs to the pipe will relieve basement sewer backups at adjacent properties and reduce the risk of street flooding in the area.
The public sewer mainline to be repaired is in the north side of SW Washington Street between SW Park and SW 10th Avenue.
Crews will be in the area the first two weeks of February to conduct pre-construction activities in advance of repairing the mainline sewer pipe. Repair of the mainline pipe using Cured-in-Place-Pipe Lining is scheduled for the night of Friday, February 21. This date could change due to weather because the lining cannot be completed during rain.
This project will include a combination of daytime and nighttime work hours. The noisier work to install cleanouts will be done during the day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The work to install the pipe lining will be done at night from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday morning. The Portland Noise Office granted Environmental Services a noise variance to allow these extended work hours.
