Mentorship Program

 

The Mentorship Program opens once a year for Mentor/Learning Partner pairings. During this period, potential mentors and learning partners voluntarily apply to participate in the program. Learning Partners select a mentor based on the Mentor’s profile and their own mentorship goals, including:

  • Work and/or career interests
  • Organizational section (i.e., division, field office, etc.)
  • Specific skills the Learning Partner aspires to develop

Once mentor partnerships are formed, Mentors and Learning Partners attend a facilitated orientation session which provides an overview of mentorship program goals and objectives along with roles and responsibilities of both mentors and learning partners. Following the orientation session, Mentors and Learning Partners will develop goals and agreements for the mentorship and agree on a regular meeting schedule. During ongoing regular meetings, they will identify and discuss the status of activities assigned to assist learning partners to accomplish their goals.

The time commitment for Mentors is one to two hours per month. Learning Partners should expect to spend more time completing agreed-upon activities to accomplish their goal(s). It may be necessary and appropriate for some of those activities to be completed on the employee’s own time. Learning Partners must obtain supervisory approval to participate in the program.
