1) How and when did your employment journey begin with the City of Portland?
My journey started in 2014 when I met a City employee that recommended I apply with the RTS II ARTS Tax position. Three months later I moved to the front counter of the Revenue Division, where I would interact with the public more and start to learn different programs. In 2015 I was promoted to an RTS III in the Un-Compliance Business section of the Business Income Tax Program, where I got to use my research and customer service skills. In 2016 I was promoted to an RTS IV in the Special Enforcement Team Business Income Tax Program. My journey has also included being a part of the Labor Committee at the Revenue Bureau and the LGBTQ & Friends Affinity Group where I try to do my part in making positive changes.
2) What is your current role?
I get to apply all the experiences I garnered from the positions leading up to my current role as the RTS IV in Short-Term Rental Compliance at the Revenue Division.
3) Name one thing that you enjoy most or look forward to about your job?
The thing I enjoy most about my job, is I get to help customers. I try to make their experience as painless as I get them in compliance with the city.
4) What is one advice or tip would you give to those seeking employment with the City? When applying for a position in the City of Portland, make sure you use the keywords in your Cover Letter and Resume; it makes a difference.
