How will Portland become the prosperous, educated, healthy and equitable city envisioned in the Portland Plan? Perhaps the most significant way is through our Comprehensive Plan, the City’s long-range land use plan for the next 25 years.
With the support of and input from the Policy Expert Groups comprised of community members, technical experts and partner bureau staff, the project team is drafting policies for job creation, housing, watershed health, transportation, neighborhood centers, equity and more. Staff is compiling these in a “working draft,” which will be shared with the community in mid-December. As staff assemble the different chapters of the document and consider the best way to organize the information for public review, plans are being made for outreach events in early 2013.
At these community workshops, in addition to the policies contained in the CPU Working Draft, the community will be asked for feedback on several growth “scenarios” that illustrate how population growth could be concentrated in different parts of the city, based on community preferences and performance against measures such as carbon emissions; vehicle miles traveled; proximity to parks, transit and amenities; and watershed health, for instance.
