Demolishing Portland: A Gallery of Lost History, United Neighborhoods for Reform (3:47)

Demolishing Portland: A Gallery of Lost History, United Neighborhoods for Reform (UNFR)
Directed and produced by Fred Lifton and Margaret Davis, 2014

This video looks at what neighborhoods give up — and gain — as Portland breaks its record for home demolitions two years in a row. UNFR supporter Fred Lifton shows the effect of demolition and infill on neighborhoods, primarily in the Northeast part of the city. The soundtrack is a song by Bill Deene, who was inspired by those involved in the 1989 “Overton Miracle,” in which 23 protesters were arrested while attempting to save homes in NW Portland.
