The Veterans Memorial Coliseum (VMC) is a multi-purpose arena, meeting, and exhibit venue located at the Rose Quarter. The VMC, which is owned by the City of Portland and operated by Portland Arena Management, was opened in November, 1960 and has operated continuously since then. The VMC has hosted a wide range of events over the years and was the home venue for the Portland Trail Blazers until 1995 when the team moved to the Moda Center (originally named Rose Garden Arena). In 2009, the VMC, which was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and is considered an excellent example of mid-century modern design, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
