Noise Variances Received

We live in a vibrant city with many events.Naturally, some of the events happening around Portland are expected to be louder than our Noise Code allows.  When this happens, a variance needs to be issued. Some of the many variances we process each year include music events like the Waterfront Blues Festival and the Zoo Concert series, among other performances.  Additionally, we process variances for Koman Race for the Cure, Oregon Humane Society's Doggie Dash, Portland Marathon, numerous weddings in our neighborhood parks, National Night Out parties, and others.

With the rapid growth of Portland, we process many construction variances, which allows construction to take place outside of allowable hours. We work with other agencies repairing and replacing our sewers, bridges, and roads, trying to balance the need for sleep, safety issues, and traffic impacts. We also work with commercial construction to help ease the housing shortage and provide spaces for businesses to thrive.

In order to see a variance, please use the map on this page to look at locations. Please note, projects in right of way (street) are not shown on the map.
