Prescription Drug Turn In and Document Shred Event

In Response to COVID-19 and Staffing from our Partners the Free Drug Turn In and Document Shred Event is Paused Until Further Notice.

See what alternate options are provided in the City of Portland for proper prescription medication disposal.

Did you know that flushing unused medications down the toilet or drain can negatively impact fish and wildlife? Equally troubling, accidental exposure to medicine in the home is a major source of unintentional pediatric poisonings in the United States.

FREE COMMUNITY EVENT to safely dispose of unwanted and expired prescription drugs. The event also provides free document shredding for sensitive documents.

 Why participate?

  • Reduce the risk of misuse of prescription medications.
  • Reduce the risk of identity theft.
  • Protect our water system with proper disposal of prescription medications.

The Sunshine Division will also be available for donations of canned food, dry pasta, and gently-used clothing for needy families. Tax deduction forms will be provided.

This FREE community shred event, prescription medication disposal, is sponsored by the Portland Police Bureau's White-Collar Crimes Unit, Office of Community & Civic Life, Sunshine Division, Rivermark Community Credit Union, and the Better Business Bureau.

*See flyer with full details including a list of accepted items on p.2.
