All City of Portland advisory body volunteers must work with their liaison and the Office of Community Life to complete mandatory trainings as part of the onboarding process.
Volunteers are in an important role that comes with ethical responsibilities and expectations for behavior. The only requirement to be eligible for an advisory body is that the volunteer live, work, play, or worship in the City of Portland, so we provide the training you need after you are selected to serve. Volunteers are accountable to State of Oregon laws, and Civic Life provides a foundation of what those are, and resources to learn more. Subject matter experts produced the content, and Civic Life provides the platform for delivering and tracking trainings, as well as support for scheduling volunteers to take the training in person.
All trainings are available online. Due to social distancing recommendations post COVID, in-person trainings are suspended. If members of advisory bodies do not have internet or need accomadations, please email AdvisoryBodies@PortlandOregon.gov to arrange for a different version of the test. Here are the steps to set up your training:
Staff Liaisons email AdvisoryBodies@portlandoregon.gov. Include the name of the advisory body, the training you are requesting, a list of member emails, and desired completion date.
Members will receive an invite to the online training & quiz.
Members will receive intermittent reminder emails if they have not completed the quiz by the training deadline.
A report of member training compliance is sent to the Staff Liaison after training deadline.
