2011- Terah Beth Varga

Crime Prevention Coordinator Jenni Pullen says:

When Terah Beth made arrangements for a Neighborhood Watch training just over a year ago on SE 80th andWoodstock, the main issue was vehicles coming and going from the neighborhood church parking lot to make drug deals day and night. Not only did Terah Beth and the neighbors start to call the police and report suspicious and criminal activity, they took things to a whole new level by completely redesigning the space.

Terah Beth has shown incredible leadership through her efforts in organizing volunteers for projects to improve the block. Terah Beth named the group, “Our Happy Block” and applied for grants to help fund the depaving of the church parking lot, which was too big and had a cut through that enabled easy access for drug dealers. She also secured some funding for a mural and made up for the cost difference by holding fund raisers. The volunteers of “Our Happy Block” have also planted grass and plant life that is native toOregonin the newly designed space. Terah Beth has put her heart into Our Happy Block and continues to connect with the community through the “Our Happy Block” blog.

The Crime Prevention program would like to recognize Terah Beth Varga for going above and beyond as a leader. She has proven that there are no limits to what a neighborhood watch group can do. Congratulations!
