Asking a local business for support for your NNO party

A great way to involve everyone in the neighborhood in your party is to ask a neighborhood business to contribute money, goods, or labor.  It's a win-win: you get a little financial help, giveaway items, or helping hands with the party, and you are offering them a valuable opportunity to increase their local business.

When you walk into the local business, ask to speak to the owner or manager, and then say something like:

Hi, my name is ___________, and I’m hosting a party here in our neighborhood to celebrate National Night Out on (date).

National Night Out is an annual event, and this will be the (1st, 5th, 10th) party that’s been held in our neighborhood.  We expect to have a lot of the people who live right around here attend.

I thought I’d stop in and ask if you would like an opportunity to participate, either by contributing food or some small items that could be handed out to people who come to the party, or by attending in person.  We’re expecting our neighborhood leaders, crime prevention coordinators, and neighborhood officers to attend, and we’d love to have you join us.  And if you want to either send or bring some hand-out items, it can be something with your logo or your business message on it that goes to a lot of people, or we could raffle off an item or two that is really special, and representative of what you do here.

People around here really like your business, and we'd like to get to know you as a neighbor as well.  Would you like to participate?

Businesses that can be especially helpful to your party might be grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants, sign shops, print shops, and retailers of all kinds.
