IDD Coalition GO! Project to advocate for families at Oregon State Capitol April 10

The Oregon Intellectual / Developmental Disability Coalition’s GO! Project Advocacy Team will be at the State Capitol on April 10th to provide information, training and take action by focusing on early intervention and early childhood education. The coalition will gather at 900 Court Street NE in Salem from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of DD Advocacy Days at the Capitol.

It is being joined by other advocates and developmental disability organizations throughout Oregon to promote quality service and supports which respectfully further the rights, equality, justice and inclusion for all Oregonians with developmental disabilities and their families.

This is the fourth of seven Advocacy Days during this year’s session of the Oregon Legislature. There will be an 11 a.m. training overview on the legislature and meeting legislators, support to practice talking points, and support to get to the legislator’s office with debriefing after a meeting. Participants are asked to wear yellow to show unity in advocacy. Advocacy Days registration is available on the FACT - Oregon web page.

The Oregon Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Coalition meets in Salem on the first Tuesday of each month to share information and take action. Anyone interested in becoming a Coalition Member, may complete the Membership Application and send to the Oregon Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Coalition via email or send to P.O. Box 13924, Salem, Oregon

The DD Coalition created Grassroots Oregon (the GO! Project) in July 2004 to connect regional advocates, identify issues of concern in communities statewide, and provide technical assistance regarding issues related to individuals with developmental disabilities.

The GO! Project strives to help people with disabilities and their families educate others – including the general public, state and local government officials, and public agency staff – about their stories, their concerns, and the impact of policies effecting people who experience developmental disabilities. For more information about the GO! Project, visit the Oregon Intellectual / Developmental Disability Coalition website.
