DRO wants everyone to know their rights at work for reasonable accommodations
Disability Rights Oregon has posted a “best practices” model as a guide to help workers with disabilities in requesting a reasonable accommodation. An outline of steps as a guide is provided and given that every situation is unique, they may not happen in order.
The steps are:
- Identify Barriers and Simple Fixes
- Get Medical Documentation
- Explain the ADA’s “Interactive Process”
- Provide an Employer with Additional Information if Appropriate
- Approach a Higher-Up
- File a Claim
Further information, including details of each step, a link to the Job Accommodation Network, claim filing processes to follow, and filing deadlines specific to private or government employment are available on DRO’s website.
Disability Rights Oregon (DRO) is Oregon’s designated Protection & Advocacy (P&A) System. DRO works to uphold the legal rights of people with disabilities and to promote Opportunity, Access and Choice for individuals with disabilities. It assists with legal problems directly related to disabilities.
