The Access and Disability Justice Award nominations
are open for 2018 Spirit of Portland event
A call for nominations is out for the 34th Annual Spirit of Portland Awards. Spirit of Portland Awards are a recognition of local heroes and the impact of their work on creating a shared future in a city we all share. Each year Portland City Council presents Spirit of Portland Awards to individuals and organizations who make outstanding contributions to our community.
The Access and Disability Justice Award is presented to an individual or an organization whose work creates greater access or equity for the disability community, with a focus on efforts led by people with disabilities with work that centers around people of color, LGBTQ communities, or others experiencing intersecting identities. The award is in the Outstanding Leadership Awards category for the 2018 Spirit of Portland Awards.
The deadline for submitting nominations is Tuesday, August 28, with an awards ceremony to be held in November 2018. Theme for this year’s award ceremony is “One City, Many Communities.”
Nomination forms are available at https://www.portlandoregon.gov/civic/77432 or by contacting Marco Mejia, at 503-823-3093 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org. The forms are currently available in Chinese, Spanish, Somali, Russian and Vietnamese. Forms can also be requested in any other language.
Spirit of Portland Award recipients are chosen by a selection committee comprised of representatives from the Mayor’s and City Commissioners’ offices, the Office of Community & Civic Life, community leaders, and previous Spirit of Portland recipients.
