• 09/26/11 @ 1927 hrs, Trauma Pin-In, 2400 block of NE Argyle St. One patient trapped between steel structural support & fork lift. Freed by co-workers, transported to area hospital by ambulance.
• 09/27/11 @ 0815 hrs. Apartment Fire, 2200 block of NW Everett St. Loss: $25,000 Cause: Combustibles placed on incandescent lighting
• 09/30/11 @ 1052 hrs, Commercial Fire, 700 block of SE Grand Av. Loss: $40,000 Cause: Cooking / Grill Fire

On Sunday, September 25, 2011, firefighters from across the country participated in the 3rd Annual Portland Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation.

Firefighters climbed the 40 floor, 800 step US Bancorp Tower in downtown Portland, Oregon outfitted in over 70 pounds each of full "combat gear."  The gear included a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) commonly used in the line of duty. In addition to the competitive ascent of the US Bancorp Tower, firefighters also competed to raise funds in the battle against CF.

Portland Firefighter Rob P. from Station 21 finishes strong

Last year, the event raised more than $75,000 that was donated to the Oregon Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis.

Firefighters contended for men's and women's titles in individual competition. Team titles were also awarded based on the combined time of the team's fastest racers. Results are below.

More About the Portland Firefighter Stairclimb

Wes Loucks, a retired Portland Fire & Rescue Firefighter of 32 years, and his wife Belinda founded the Portland Firefighter Stairclimb when both of their young grandsons were born with CF. The Portland Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge is sponsored by Leatherman, Portland Fire Fighters Association Local 43, and the International Association of Fire Fighters and attracts firefighters to Portland from as far away as Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.

Early Friday morning, off-duty Portland firefighters hit the Heron Lakes Golf Course in North Portland for a day of fun, fresh air, and friendly competition!

Teams played 18 holes to help raise awareness and funds for the Portland Rose Festival Foundation and the David Campbell Memorial Association in the annual "Heroism is Par for the Course" tournament.  The David Campbell Memorial Association honors Portland Fire & Rescue firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty.

8:30 am marked the shotgun start and activities included a hosted lunch and beverage stations.  Contests were held throughout the day including playing a hole in turnouts and a helmet and a hole in one contest with a $10,000 cash prize.

Portland Team members Battalion Chief Don Russ, Deputy Chief Duane Bray, Deputy Chief John Harding, and Lieutenant Mark Lyons (pictured above) won the golf tournament and received various prizes from local businesses.
