Lila the Arson Dog (Retired 2015)

Lila, a black Labrador retriever, is the shortest and youngest member of Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R).  She recently joined PF&R and works within the arson investigation unit as an Accelerant Detection Canine, or as we like to call her, an arson dog.  Lila is trained to detect and alert petroleum-based fuels, which can assist investigators determine the cause of a fire.  In addition to providing service to PF&R, she also provides assistance to other Bureaus statewide.

Lieutenant Jackson, of PF&R's Investigation Unit, has committed to a five-year working relationship with his partner, Lila. This bond is maintained by training everyday and living together.  Lieutenant Jackson and Lila are one of 80 national response teams.  Lieutenant Jackson has been with PF&R for almost 23 years, and has served in PF&R's Investigations Unit since 2004.  Jackson is a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) and Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), and a Task Force Officer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
