15 volunteers who are also Portland Fire & Rescue firefighters who took part in a two-week humanitarian effort in Haiti have begun to arrive back home to Oregon.
The volunteers spent over two weeks offering aid and bringing water, food, clothing, and providing basic aid and search and rescue support to the peoples of Haiti.
To prepare for this trip, the volunteers received vaccinations and have packed sleeping bags, pillows, and camping and food supplies. Fellow firefighters at Portland stepped up to cover the volunteers’ shifts during their absence.
Firefighters that returned last night were greeted at the Portland Airport by their families and colleagues. The rest of the firefighters will be returning from Haiti to Oregon on Friday, February 26, 2010.
It is with great pride that Portland Fire & Rescue welcomes back the firefighters. They have demonstrated tenacity, professionalism, and courage in their response to help the people of Haiti.
