Bright and early this morning, female firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue appeared on KGW Channel 8 with Drew Carney.  This was a great opportunity to invite girls and women who are interested in discovering career possibilities in trades to the 18th Annual Women In Trades Career Fair.  The fair provides women and girls with the opportunity to meet tradeswomen, use power tools, operate equipment, and learn about apprenticeships and high-paying, highly skilled career opportunities.

One of the aspects of this fair that firefighters enjoy most is the opportunity to be role models and provide hands-on experience to young women who may not have thought about pursuing a career in firefighting. Portland Fire & Rescue will be on hand all weekend to talk with participants and demonstrate equipment and apparatus.

The Women in Trades Career Fair is being held at the NECA/IBEW Electrical Training Center, 16021 NE Airport Way, Portland, OR 97230.

The Fair is a three day event:
Middle School Girls' Day* —Thursday, April 29th
High School Girls' Day* —Friday, April 30th
Careers for Women Day** —Saturday, May 1st
* Pre-registration is required for school days
**Everyone is welcome
