*update* Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to 2nd Alarm Fire at N Houghton
Posted: April 29th, 2010 8:00 AM
Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) responded to a 2nd alarm fire at N Houghton and N Peninsular this morning. Arriving at 4:19, the first crews stated that heavy smoke was coming from several second-floor windows. Because there were an unknown number of victims, a second alarm was called at 4:24.
Firefighters found a victim waiting on the front porch; the patient was transported to a burn unit. Although initial reports stated that everyone was out of the house, the patient stated that a roommate may have been inside. Primary and secondary searches – normal PF&R procedure in residential fires – confirm that no one else was home.
The fire was under control at 5:24. Fire investigators are on scene. Updates will be posted as they become available.
PF&R recommends you have a home escape plan with at least two ways out of every room. Discuss it with your family, and practice it.
Approximately 50 firefighters were called to fight the fire, including:
8 engines
2 trucks
1 rescue squad
4 chief officers
2 investigators
1 rehab unit
1 PIO
