Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to SE Portland Residential Fire

Posted: May 28th, 2010 3:16 PM

Portland Fire & Rescue responded at 1058 to a Residential Fire at 4227 SE 75th Ave.  First arriving units at 1103 described a single story residence with "Heavy Fire and Black Smoke coming from the back of the home."  Fire crews also found a female patient on the front lawn suffering from fire related injuries.  The patient was treated at the scene by firefighters and transported to a local hospital by an American Medical Response medic unit.  Her condition is not known at this time.

While crews fought the fire, there were reports of oxygen tanks in the home.  Firefighting efforts were also hampered by a large collection on items stored in the home.  The fire was  brought under control and recalled at 1135, with all companies working.  Fire crews will remain on the scene into the late afternoon assisting Fire Investigators and overhauling the contents.  The Red Cross was asked to respond to assist another adult who lived in the home.  Animal Control responded to the scene since one dog died in the fire.  A second dog which escaped the fire and ran was found 4-5 blocks away by Animal Control.

In all a total of 43 Firefighters responded to the scene on 6 Engines, 2 Trucks, 2 Rescues, 2 Chiefs, 3 Investigators, and 1 Rehab Unit.  At this time there are no Value or Loss Estimates to release.

Portland Fire & Rescues reminds everyone if you have Medical Oxygen or other Compressed Gas Cylinders in your residence, to store them properly per the manufacturer or service company policies or suggestions.
