Portland Fire Investigators and Portland Police Officers Make Arrest in Food Cart Fire

Portland Fire Investigators and Portland Police arrested Kevin Daniel Mackin, age 26, on Friday, July 30th. Mackin was charged with one count each of Burglary II and Arson II for an incident involving a food cart at SW 5th Avenue and Stark Street.
At approximately 11:10 pm on Thursday, July 29th, crews from Portland Fire Station 1, located at 55 SW Ash, responded to a call of a fire. Upon arrival, crews from Engine 1 extinguished the fire, which had been partially extinguished by responding Portland Police officers prior to the engine's arrival. The fire caused $3,000 in damage to the business and was determined by Portland Fire Investigators to have been intentionally set.
Mackin was taken into custody near the scene by responding uniformed police officers. Mackin was arraigned in Multnomah County Court on Friday, July 30th at 2:30 pm. Burglary II and Arson II are Class C Felonies that carry a $5,000 fine and up to five years in jail.
The case will be presented to a grand jury on Thursday, August 5th. If you observe suspicious activity, please call 9-1-1 to report it.
