Firefighters from Station 19, which serves the Montavilla, Madison South, Center, and Mt. Tabor neighborhoods, visited Marquis Care at Mt. Tabor located at 6040 SE Belmont on Wednesday, August 25th for a Kids’ Safety Fair. This fair was put on by Marquis Care for the children of their employees and neighborhood kids to come learn about how to have a safe, fun summer.
One of the activities kids participated in at the fair was visiting various emergency response organizations’ vehicles (such as Portland Fire, American Medical Response, Portland Police, etc.) and having a card initialed as they completed each visit, which resulted in them receiving a small prize.
Engine 19 was called away mid-way through the event to an emergency. During these types of community outreach visits, they remain in service to respond to emergencies in their FMA (Fire Management Area). The firefighters explained to the children why they needed to leave, and then promised to return as soon as they were done responding to the call if they were able to.
